Love is in the air
Here is a story of true Love

Neal and Delores Hazelton have been married for 63 years.

Neal and Delores were married February 12, 1946, at St. Francis Catholic Church, in Brainerd, Mn. Attending the wedding were just immediate family. The wedding party then went to Delores parents house for a reception. They then had a dance at a tavern in Merrifield. Neal said it was very cold. They lived in Merrifield for 10 years. Neal worked for The Pacific North Railroad. They moved to Northome Mn. and lived in that town for 27 years. Neal worked as a mechanic. They were foster parents to about 5 different children. They then were foster parents to a 9 month old baby, Dennis was speical to me, maybe because he was younger then they other children, or maybe it was fate. Dennis's mother remarried and wanted Dennis back to live with her. The Hazelton's said, "If it doesn't work out we would like him back," For some reason it did not work out and Neal and Delores adopted him into their family. Dennis lives in New London, Wisconsin. He works for Hillshire Farms. Stanley lives in Warroad, with his wife Nancy. They have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. Karen and her husband Paul live in the cities. They have 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren.

They have seen many ups and downs, but both say it was worth it.

Happy Valentine's Day to Everyone. May you feel loved every day

GO BACK TO BLACKDUCK

Happy March to everyone. March came in like a lamb so we need to brace ourselves for the end of the month. March can be a very snowy month but so far we have just had rain and fog and mild temperatures.

The Residents are enjoying wearing their bracelets that they made for St. Patrick's day, as you can see from the picture. We will be serving corn beef, cabbage and new potatoes for the noon meal that day. For the afternoon activity we will be having some Irish music along with shamrock shakes and green cupcakes.

We look forward to the 1st day of spring on the 20th and the Residents have already made dragonfly thermometers so they can keep their eyes on the warm temperatures that will be coming.

We have implemented some changes in our dietary department. We have gone to a 5 week rotation of menus instead of 3 weeks and are trying out some new recipes and so far so good.

Easter is just around the corner and we at Heritage House of Kimball would like to wish everybody a very Happy and Blessed Easter.

Until next time, "THINK SPRING!"

GO BACK TO KIMBALL

Hello from Heritage House !

February 6th we had a visit from "Just for Kix" come and entertain our tenant's with a dance routine. They were all dressed in their little pink tutu's and ranged from 4 to 5 years old. They put on a good show and then enjoyed cookies and juice with our tenant's. Mary Jo Hutson, one of our tenant's, heard of a staff's Birthday in February and wished to put on a surprise birthday party for her. She baked a cake, made homemade guacamole dip to have with tortilla chips, made cream cheese celery sticks and peanut butter balls , along with helium balloons ,noisemaker's and funny hats, they had quite the celebration for Trista's birthday. This is a good example of how the staff's hard work goes un-noticed by our tenant's and appreciation shown. We transported a bus load of our tenant's to the annual Jenkin's VFW Valentine's Bingo party on the 14th. Prizes were won and one of our tenant's, (Sharon Luloff) was picked for the "Valentine's Sweetheart", and recieved her crown, a long stemmed rose and chocolates. A nice lunch was served after bingo and everyone really enjoyed the outing. Many thanks to the post 3839 Ladies Auxillary members from the Jenkins VFW for inviting Heritage House and sponsoring this wonderful annual party that is enjoyed by many elderly in the area.

GO BACK TO PEQUOT LAKES

Well, March did come in like a lamb, but lately it's been wet and soggy here in Sebeka. The one nice thing about all the rain has been watching how fast it makes the snow melt.

The residents are all looking forward to getting outside for walks and to spend time on the front deck. We've also been going through the seed catalogs and making plans for what we'll plant in our planters. Thinking of eating fresh peas and beans from our deck garden makes us anxious to get digging and planting.

We had a visit from a pet therapy team recently. Susie Stoddard and Domino came to our home to show their tricks and to visit the residents. Domino is a 2 year old Lhasa Apso. He was very friendly and loved sitting on laps. The residents were so excited to have a chance to pet and spend time with Domino. We're anxiously awaiting his next visit.

We will be celebrating a special holiday in our community. On March 16 we will celebrate St. Urho's Day. St. Urho is the patron saint of the Finnish people. To honor St. Urho we will wear purple and feast on Maojakka and flat bread. We will also celebrate on March 17 with St. Patrick's Day. We plan on testing our luck with a pot of gold toss and eating some corned beef and cabbage. Maybe the residents will be daring and kiss the blarney stone!

Next time you're in Sebeka or out taking a spring walk in our neighborhood, stop in for a visit. . .
we always have the coffee pot on!
